Over 3 days 4X4 vehicles and their crews are pushed to the absolute limit. Between them and the Tuff Truck Trophy are menacing boulders, rocks, mud, deep holes, ruts and near vertical cliffs. Teams hope to survive all 12 stages without mechanical mishaps or, worse, being stopped short by a roll over or being submerged in a lake of thick mud.
One team which has consistently set the pace each year is the Jeep TJ Wrangler duo of driver Shane Bakes and navigator Timothy Scutt. Their high powered off roader features massive tyres, a full roll cage, coil over suspension, rear steering, and front and rear differential disconnects married to a TH400 automatic gearbox.
Bakes and Scutt rely on Anglomoil lubricants to keep their Jeep performing in the harsh conditions with high temperatures, high revving, dust, mud, dirt and . They began competing in 2009 and have won the King Of The Park award.
The 2014 Tough Dog Tuff Truck Challenge is on March 28-30 near Singleton NSW and 8000 or more spectators are expected to camp out and to drop in for the weekend.
“The truck is Tuff enough and ready to handle anything”, says Shane.
